Wright Brothers

Wright Brothers

Renowned for the invention, construction and flight of the world's first successful aeroplane, the Wright Brothers made their first flight on 17 December 1903, in North Carolina.

In a key breakthrough, the Wright Brothers developed the first three axis control – enabling the pilot to steer the aircraft more efficiently and effectively. Although the design now dates back over 100 years, the brothers’ revolutionary innovation is still used in many of today’s fixed-wing aircraft.

Their systematic approach to solving ‘the flying problem’ set them apart from many would-be pioneers of the time, who focused on building powerful engines.
